OUR SERVICES

from early concept
through to in-service operations

We bring human factors into the design and operation of complex systems.

Our work is always targeted, always evidence-based, and always shaped by the operational realities of the environments we work in.

HUMAN FACTORS INTEGRATION (HFI)

Purple asterisk-shaped symbol on a white background.

Human Factors Integration is the systematic process of ensuring that human capabilities, limitations and behaviours are considered and addressed throughout the design, procurement, introduction and operation of complex systems. In short, it’s about making sure the humans in your system are set up for success.

We deliver HFI across the full project lifecycle — from early concept and feasibility through to commissioning, in-service operation and change management.

Our HFI services include:

  • Development and management of Human Factors Integration Plans (HFIPs)

  • Human Factors User Requirement (HFUR) identification and derivation

  • Human Factors analysis, assessment and reporting across engineering, operational and business systems

  • Task analysis and human error analysis

  • HF oversight and governance activities

  • Workstation, control room and rolling stock design support

  • Station design, accessibility and wayfinding

  • Workshop facilitation and end user consultation

  • HF incident investigation

  • HF assurance reporting to support regulatory and accreditation requirements under the Rail Safety National Law (RSNL)

  • HFI to support change management, accreditation applications, variations and notifications of change

Whether you are introducing a new fleet, upgrading infrastructure, modifying existing equipment or navigating a regulatory change process, we provide the Human Factors expertise to manage risk and support defensible, evidence-based decision making.

FATIGUE RISK MANAGEMENT

Purple asterisk or star shape on a white background

Fatigue in safety-critical operations is a systemic risk and one that demands a structured, evidence-based approach to identify, assess and manage. Heilsa delivers fatigue risk management services that are practical, proportionate and aligned with industry standards and regulatory expectations.

Our fatigue risk management services include:

  • Technical roster reviews and fatigue risk assessments

  • Fatigue Risk Management System (FRMS) development, review and improvement

  • Fatigue and workload studies, including in-cab and in-field assessments

  • Risk-based rostering and scheduling tool development

  • Workload analysis across operational roles and shift types

  • Fatigue risk management audits

  • Integration of fatigue risk outcomes into broader safety management systems

We understand the operational and commercial pressures that shape roster design in the transport industry. Our work is designed to support sustainable, risk-managed outcomes, not to add administrative burden.

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & ERGONOMICS

Good ergonomics is the foundation of safe, effective and sustainable work. Where people interact with equipment, infrastructure, tools and workspaces, there is an opportunity to either increase or reduce risk. We bring structured health and ergonomic assessment and design support to transport and industrial environments.

Our services include:

  • Physical ergonomic assessments of workstations, cabs, control rooms and maintenance environments

  • Participative ergonomics programs, working directly with frontline workers to identify and resolve risks

  • Manual handling risk assessment and design improvement

  • Job dictionary and task library development

  • Health risk profiling and rail health risk assessments

  • Psychosocial hazard analysis

Not sure where to start?

Many of our clients come to us with a challenge, not a defined scope. If you have a project, a regulatory requirement, or a concern about human performance, let’s talk.

We’ll help you understand what’s needed and how to approach it.
